Over the past few weeks, I’ve heard a lot of commentary — especially on social media — suggesting that buyers coming into the Pacific Palisades and Malibu from outside the area are somehow hurting our community. I want to address this directly, because I’ve seen the real stories behind these transactions, and the narrative being spread simply isn’t accurate.
From where I’m standing — literally on a lot here in the Palisades — I can tell you with certainty:
We need these buyers. We need their energy, their investment, and their willingness to take on rebuilding.
Many of the sellers I work with have completely legitimate reasons for needing to move on. Some are advanced in age and can’t physically or emotionally take on the long process of rebuilding. Others are going through major life transitions. Some simply need clarity and stability after the fire.
For these families, buyers aren’t opportunists — they are the very people helping them close a difficult chapter.
Something else I want to clarify:
The majority of the lots I’ve sold in the Palisades have actually gone to people who already live here.
I’ve helped families switch to a different lot that better fits their needs. I’ve helped parents buy nearby lots for their adult children so everyone can stay close. I’ve helped long-time residents reinvest back into their own community.
It’s important that we don’t lose sight of this reality.
Here’s the truth:
To rebuild our community quickly and effectively, we need more buyers— more end-users, more families, more investors.
Not fewer.
We should not be shaming or discouraging people from Santa Monica, San Francisco, or anywhere else who are considering buying here. We should be welcoming them.
Their participation accelerates our recovery.
The faster these lots change hands, the faster we rebuild homes, restore streets, revive activity, and bring life back to the areas that need it most.
Whether you’re a long-time resident or someone who’s always wanted to live in the Palisades, this moment presents a unique window:
Prices on many lots are lower than they were pre-fire. That won’t last forever.
And the people who step in now — with integrity and a genuine desire to build — are helping the entire community move forward.
Before we jump to conclusions based on social media posts, I think it’s important to remember that behind every transaction is a real family. A real story. And often, a real need to transition.
My hope is that we stop painting buyers as villains and instead recognize the role they play in helping the Palisades rebuild — stronger, safer, and better than before.
If you have questions about selling, buying, or what this rebuilding phase means for your part of the Palisades, I’m always here to talk.
